Meet the Instuctors

In 1996, Sam and Joel Haasenritter, began a two-year apprenticeship with a third generation piano shop and later supplemented it with academic studies in piano technology.  They both graduated with highest honors in 1999 and co-founded Sound Piano Services, Inc.  Then, in 2000, the brothers passed the Piano Technicians Guild’s demanding examinations to become Registered Piano Technicians.  Over the next several years, they attended regional and national PTG conventions, completed two week-long training seminars (including one with Yamaha) and secured two, phenomenal, Steinway-trained technicians as mentors.  2005 was particularly noteworthy as both Sam and Joel spent three intense weeks training in Vienna at the world-renowned Bösendorfer factory.  And in 2008, they expanded by establishing Haasenritter Piano Service, Inc.

Following in the footsteps of other renowned piano families, such as the Steinway’s, each brother has focused on differing aspects of the piano industry, in addition to mastering concert piano maintenance.  Joel has toured five piano factories, including Bösendorfer in Vienna and Mason & Hamlin in Massachusetts.  In 2008, he spent one week training at Steinway, New York.  He is the concert technician for the Cobb Symphony Orchestra when performing at the Murray Center and has provided backup concert services numerous times for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.   Sam, on the other hand, has focused his energies on studying high-end rebuilding and designing tools to increase a piano technician’s efficiency and accuracy.  Lately, he has been engaged in writing the curriculum for the Octave Worth of Piano Knowledge seminar series, designed to educate the musical community about harnessing the piano’s and the pianist’s full potential.

Currently, Sam and Joel provide high-quality piano service in Atlanta, Georgia.  Churches and colleges that trust their pianos to the duo include Peachtree Presbyterian, Peachtree Road United Methodist, First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, La Grange College, Agnes Scott College and Oglethorpe University.  Even the discriminating tastes of concert artists, such as Elton John, Andreas Klein, George Winston, Andre Watts, Donald Runnicles, Hillary Hahn, Valentina Lifitsa, and Alexei Kuznetsoff have been satisfied by Joel’s and Sam’s attention to detail.
